10th Kup to 9th Kup WHITE BELT - YELLOW TAG (see opposite)
9th Kup to 8th Kup YELLOW TAG - YELLOW BELT
Symbolises HEAVEN, the source of all things to come
8th Kup to 7th Kup YELLOW BELT - GREEN TAG
Expresses the principles of JOYFULNESS (clear & relaxed mind)
7th Kup to 6th Kup GREEN TAG - GREEN BELT
Espouses the principle of FIRE (keenness & enthusiasm)
6th Kup to 5th Kup GREEN BELT - BLUE TAG
Expresses the principle of THUNDER (expressed as bravery & steadfastness)
5th Kup to 4th KupBLUE TAG - BLUE BELT
Based on the principle of WIND (change direction & force without warning)
4th Kup to 3rd KupBLUE BELT - RED TAG

1st Dan – 2nd Dan
Represents UNITY, STRENGTH & NATIONAL RESOLVE (the spirit of the Korean people)
2nd Dan – 3rd Dan
Represents a MIND LIKE A DIAMOND (tough, resolute & self-sufficient)
3rd Dan – 4th Dan
The legendary sight where Dangoon first founded Korea
4th Dan – 5th Dan
Expresses the EXPANSE OF THE PLAIN (where the majority of Koreans live)
5th Dan – 6th Dan
Based upon the concept of ORDERLY DEVELOPMENT and STABILITY
A minimum of 3 months training is required between each Kup grading & from 1st Kup to 1st Dan.
Basic pattern is used by SangMu to grade beginners from White belt (10th Kup) to Yellow tag (9th Kup) see video below
