Master Darren Thorp (7th Dan)

Master Darren is President of the Sheffield Sangmu Taekwondo association, which is a member of the British Taekwondo & Mudo Acadamy (BTMA). The BTMA is an associate member of the British Taekwondo Council (BTC) which is recognised by the sport council as the governing body for taekwondo in the UK.

​

Master Darren is a registered taekwondo instructor through the BTC, liability & individually insured, DBS checked and holds first aid certification.  He has been training and teaching taekwondo for over 35 years.

​

In his earlier taekwondo career, Master Darren competed successfully in many full-contact fighting competitions as a junior and senior both at local and national levels. He now enjoys passing on his knowledge and years of experience of all aspects of taekwondo to his students in a very unique, fun, hard-working and friendly atmosphere.

1986 to Present - Started training in taekwondo in 1986 under Master John Gabbard 7th Dan

​

1986-89 Kup graded under Master Craig Waddington 6th Dan (IL GI - BTA/BTF - WTF)

​

1989, 1991, 1994 - gained 1st, 2nd & 3rd Dans under Grand Master Kim Yong Ho 9th Dan (Sangmu - BTF - WTF)

​

1998, 2004, 2010 - gained 4th, 5th & 6th Dans, Grand Master Kim Yong Ho 9th Dan (Sangmu - BTMA – WTA)

​

1991 to 2022 - Senior instructor to Sheffield University Taekwondo club.

​

2009 to 2016 - Treasurer of Sheffield Sangmu Association

​

2009 to present - President of Sheffield Sangmu Association

​

2013 - Gained Kukkiwon 3rd Dan

​

2016 - Gained Kukkiwon 4th Dan

​

2019 - Gained 7th Dan - Master D Sutherill (Sangmu - BTMA - BTC)

​

2019 - Approved as an Individual Member of the Kukkiwon Membership system

​

Present - Chief instructor to Sheffield Horangi Clubs
